Born in 1952 in Italy, Jean-Pierre Mocci lives in Saint Paul deVence, southern France.  Mocci is a self-taught artist.  He started to paint in his early years with watercolors, which helped him develop his technique.  He sold his works on the markets in the south of France.  Then, his father urged him to move into oils, using a combination of paintbrush and knife techniques, which is  traditional to the Provencal school of painting and which he still uses today.  Mocci is a thoughtful painter.  His compositions are meticulous and show a deep understanding of the harmonious relationship between color and light.  All his works express an emotional and visual poetry.
