Born in England, Michael Gibson's love of woodworking began at the age of fourteen. As a boy, Michael spent many long hours as a shipwright's apprentice building wooden yachts on the Eastern coast of Essex. His relationship with wood continued as he progressed to Master Carpenter, an esteemed title in Britain. At age thirty, Michael moved to the US and began a career as a finish carpenter. Always interested in woodturning, and with the encouragement of a friend, Michael decided to give it a "go" and now turning has brought a new love to his life. Mike possesses a keen eye for shape and form and is totally self-taught. He believes that the true beauty of wood lies somewhere inside each piece and enjoys bringing out that beauty.  Michael is quite the Renaissance man. He enjoys fencing, racing cars, boating, hiking and photography. Mike lives with his wife Cynthia in his self-built home and studio in Hoschton, Georgia.
