Shellie Lewis-Dambax
has been painting since college, when she received a Bachelors
of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from the College
of Charleston in 1991. Most of her work has been seen and sold
in her own restaurant. Over the past fifteen years she and her
husband have owned, operated and sold two restaurants, one in
Charleston SC and one in Brevard NC. She is currently opening a
new restaurant in Brevard NC. She has continued to paint
throughout this time and also works fabricating steel work. Her
passion for painting began as a search and escape from the
suffering and pain of life. The emotion and intensity of places
visited are captured in the starkness and whimsical oil
paintings she creates. For her, painting is the therapy to life
and a sacred time to be true to whom she is suppose to be. Last
year she moved to France, after having sold her restaurant, and
had the opportunity to capture the streets of the little
villages in the Dordogne region.
